What do Skid Steers and Turkeys have in common?

This is a story that’s hard to believe, but true. The motivation to build the first skid steer came from that majestic bird we all know as the turkey. Ben Franklin wanted the turkey to be the proud symbol of our country, unfortunately it lost out to the eagle, but that’s another story. Anyway, seems that a fellow by the name of Eddie Velo owned a turkey farm in Minnesota in the early 1950’s and needed a machine he could use to clean the manure from the two story pole barn that housed his turkeys. He took his need to a nearby machine shop and the owners of the shop went to work and used their imagination and skill to build the first skid steer.Read the rest of the story at our Skid Steer website.

John Deere Tractors

John Deere Tractors have been around for a long time.

John Deere the famous inventor of the steel plow was born in Vermont. He was first a blacksmith and then moved to Illinois where he put his “smithing” talents to work to solve a problem that farmers were experiencing. Farmers of that day required a plow that was more substantial than the wood or cast iron that was being used and John Deere opened a plant that produced light steel plows that were perfectly suited to cut through the thick prairie sod.
