Around the World in Eighty Days is a classic novel, that still fascinates today, even though todays transportation system makes it possible to fly around the world in one day, when done in the right direction….
Jules Verne was a visionary and wrote this book well before the technologies were there, one yould say a bit like Leonardo da Vinci, the Italian artist who drew sketches of planes. This adventure audio book makes for great listening, especially whilst driving or travelling in an airplane. What more approriate entertainement could you listen to whilst in motion?
Travelling by motor car, ship, balloon, plane and battling against the ever diminishing 80 days limit the racing crew finally makes it because they gained a day because they crossed the date barrier.

As long as you keep it in good repair and get it checked out regularly, the brake systems which your car came with is probably quite alright and doesn’t need to be replaced with some fancy, custom system. There are some important things to keep in mind, however. When you get your brake pads replaced, it is important to take it easy for a while, at least until they brake in. If you do not do that, they will wear out quickly, and then you’ll have to get new ones almost immediately! The best way to take it easy is to not drive very fast, drive conservatively, and above all, do not brake suddenly unless you absolutely have to. This will ensure that your brakes will break in gradually like they were meant to.

I’m teaching my daughter to drive at the moment, and chastising here for only accelerating and braking, rather than sometimes just coasting. Did you know that it is estimated that 6% of the gasoline used in a normal car is wasted by braking. It takes lots of gas to get a few thousand pounds of metal up to speed. When slowing or stopping, that forward energy is wasted as friction and heat. A technology in hybrid cars called regenerative braking helps recover that lost energy. This feature slows hybrid cars by turning the electric motor. Turning the electric motor creates electricity, which recharges the batteries … [more on hybrid cars]

Fast-Autos has added a video of the striking Jaguar C-XF concept car to its news section. This Jaguar, like the XKR prototype shown a couple of years ago, is what the next Jaguar four-seat sedan will be like. And that is very cool – a truly suave and sexy sports saloon.
Powered by a supercharged V-8 engine, the car will not just look good, but will be very quick. The video shows the car in motion and on the stage at Detroit and is a new development at Fast-Autos. It is http://www.fast-autos.com/videos/Jaguar_C-XF-intro.html here.
Of course, there is plenty of competition coming. For example, Toyota is launching a tarted up version of the Lexus IS, the Lexus IS-F. Powered by a 400 bhp V-8 the IS-F – F stands for flagship, and is Toyota’s new sporty range – will be able to outdrag quite a few muscle cars. Then, Toyota is working on a sporty hybrid, the FT-HS Hybrid which will look different and have 400 bhp on tap.
Both Honda and Toyota have revealed concepts of supercars with V-10 engines developing about 450 bhp to compete in the supercar class. Honda’s will go into production as a replacement for the sadly missed NSX. It will be front-engined, whereas the NSX was rear-engined, and Honda expects the car to appeal to a wider audience, even though the concept car looks a bit odd.

Consider the size of what you are moving before you secure your van rental. If you are moving, you may want the biggest van or truck they have. This can save you trips if you get a big enough van. You have to look at their prices, how far you are going, and the price of gas before you decide what type of van you want. If you are moving a good distance, you don’t want to make two trips. On the other hand, if you are moving down the block, it may be more cost effective to make two trips with a small van than to rent a huge truck.

Mitsubishi showed a prototype of the Evo X hot sedan at Detroit – and this wll be a stunning performer. It is based on Mitsubishi’s world car concept applied to the Lancer. Sure, it is better than the old car to look at – that would not be difficult – and has an aggressive front end and the usual extras you expect on a hot sedan aimed at the rally word. But it could still do with looking more different.
Never mind the looks, this will be a sensational performer.
But we will have to wait for details as the most important things are the new aluminum engine, which is 45 lb (20 kg) lighter than the old one but designed for even higher boost! They are not saying how much power, but the Evo IX delivered 345 bhp in regular trim, and special versions were available with 400 bhp. So expect 360-400 bhp, with the possibility of getting 450 bhp or more.
The engine is coupled to either an automated manual – a sequential box operated by paddles similar to that of the BMW M5/6 except that it will have five speeds. There will also be a five-speed manual. Read the full article at Fast-Autos.com
