Rally Champion Juha Kankkunen, the Bentley Continental GT smashed the
world ice speed record reaching an average speed of 199.86mph (321.65km/h)

How about getting off with speeding at 159 mph?

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

Fed up with low speed limits and too many speed traps? Well, what are your chances of getting off with speeding at over 150 mph (240 kph)? Not much, I bet.

If you drive a fast car you want to open her up on the open road from time to time, but are concerned about getting caught. There is a guy called Constantino Garcia, a Spaniard, who probably holds the record for avoiding a speeding fine. Garcia was clocked at 159 mph (257 km/h) in his Audi A8 – limited electronically to 155 mph (250 km/h by the way – by the police on a motorway in northern Spain. But he did not claim the speed detector was inaccurate.

You might imagine that Garcia would have lost his licence by now. after all he offered a not very robust defence. he said that the audi a8 was desiged to travel very fast in a straight line, there was little traffic, and visibility was good. He claimed that 90 per cent of people would have done the same thing.

Slick Nissan Coupe

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

Has Nissan got the Infiniti coupe right with the Infiniti G37 Coupe, which is getting near a sports car in performance? They have certainly tried hard, enlarging the 3.5 liter V-6 from the 350Z to 3.7 liters, and pushing power up to 330 bhp. Also, the car looks pretty slick. Nissan styling has always been lacklustre – with a few notable exceptions such as the 350 Z – but this is all changing now, and the G37 certainly looks the part, but retains a grille that is similar to other Infiniti models – Nissan has decided that if the Europeans retain their grilles as good trade marks, so there’s should do the same trick for Infiniti. Overall, the G37 is a pretty slick looking job, but leaning towards the cruiser rather that the sports car in its lines, but pleasing nonetheless. It has double wishbone suspension and four-wheel steering.

MPG-MEGA-CAPSâ„¢

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

When we created the technology used in the MPG-MEGA-CAPSâ„¢, we took a long careful scientific approach to the situation. We know the dynamics of combustion vary depending on pressures, temperatures, ignition techniques, vaporization, and chemical characteristics of the fuel We know that fuels are efficient to a point of 99.5%. So how can we improve on this? Simply, we addressed the state of the combustion chamber itself, and the relationship therein of the fuel and how it is “processed”

BMW M3 V-8

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

There have been rumors that the new M3 would get a V-8 engine, and some people pointed to the 4.4 liter mill used in the big Beemers. Now we know. The M3 will look slicker than we have seen from BMW from some time, and it looks as if the Bangle Bungles of the current series have finally been ended. To saved weight, the roof is reinforced carbon fiber, like the M6, and the car has a lot more in common with the M6 than you might think – except looks. You see, the V-8 is essentially the V-10 of the M5 and M6 – you may remember that the V-10 is unusual in have a 90 degree angle between the banks. 90 degrees is what you need for V-8s. The new V-8 is very compact, like the V-10, and is actually lighter than the in-line six used in the current M3 – the new engine weighs 445 lb (202 kg) 83 lb (38 kg) less than the six. That is a lot. The new V-8, which develops 420hp at 8,300rpm and 400Nm of torque at 3,900rpm, is also a good deal shorter than the in-line six. Should make the new M3 a real stunner, and worth waiting for. Efficiency is enhanced by the use of regenerative braking – when you are braking the alternator charges a special battery, saving energy. A real stunner, capable of getting to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds. We’ll be doing more on the M3 soon.

Aluminum or Steel Sailboats – which is better?

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

Most sailboats are fiberglass these days, but if you are looking for a really strong sailboat, you are likely to choose steel or aluminum. Fiberglass is fine for normal use, but if you are going cross oceans, or give your sailboat a hard life, metal is best. They are also good materials if you want to get your own design of sailboat built.

The reason aluminum or steel are best is that metals are both strong and stiff, and when hit really hard, they bend – fiberglass and even the most advanced composites will break, and even shatter. Then the sailboat will almost certainly sink. A sailboat with a dent in the hull can keep going.

There are other advantages, too. Fiberglass boats usually have separate keels that are bolted in place. The bolts ‘work’ in the retaining holes in the hull, enlarging then slightly, and after a few years you are likely to get leaks. Worse still, if you press your sailboat really hard, the bolts can break, and you lose the keel. This happens quite often in racing, and can happen to cruising sailboats as well.
