My first hot car

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

One thing that really increased east central Iowa tourism was when the car show came to the Quad Cities. Iowans have always had a love of cars and that showed through when the show came to town. There were lots of memories in the hot rod and antiques section of the show, and there was a lot of lust in the new car section. Back in the days of my youth I remember being under the hood for hours adding that one special thing that would give me just a little more power. I had the heads shaved .30 and bought special gaskets to install them with. I was only shade tree, so most of that was done by a friend who had a shop. I did buy a converter plate so I could put a four barrel carburetor on my two barrel manifold. I cut the Y pipe and made it into dual exhaust with road runner mufflers. The cops didn’t like it, but I though it sounded boss! Then I put the wide tires on back, they were to give more traction, that one didn’t work so well as it snowed the week after I put them on and I had to walk home because the tires just floated on top of snow.

Preparing For Your DMV Road Test

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

As most everyone knows before you drive a vehicle you must take and pass a DMV road test. A DMV road test is necessary to make sure the person seeking a drivers license understands the rules that apply when driving before they are allowed on the roads. It is always a good idea to practice the things that will be on the test in advance because you want to pass it the first time. Below are some of the different things that you will be graded on when you take the DMV road test so you can be completely prepared when you go.

They will grade you on how well you keep control of the vehicle by checking for things like, do you take off smoothly or do you cause the vehicle to jerk a lot. When applying the brake does the vehicle slow down to a smooth stop or do you wait till the last minute and slam on the brakes. They will also be checking your hand position when steering and how well you can drive when using other controls such as signal lights and windshield wipers when they are needed. They will check to make sure that you use your signals properly and in all the appropriate situations such as changing lanes and turning.

Being fully prepared for your drivers license test will help to ensure that you pass the first time around. Get useful tips for your driving road test by visiting http://www.roadtesttips.com, and be ready for your big day!

Is Doubling Your Gas Mileage a Pipedream?

Monday, January 28th, 2008

Until the big auto makers come up with an affordable fuel-efficient car (cheap plug-in hybrids, anybody?), we will have to make the best of the rusting clunkers sitting in our driveways. There are some simple things we can do to improve our present automobile’s fuel economy — slowing down on the highway, unloading excess cargo, getting a tune-up, increasing tire pressure to decrease rolling friction, are all some easy examples. There are also possible ways to increase your miles per gallon by making do-it-yourself alterations to your engine. Do they really work, or are they just marketing hype? You can read about one claimed method for doubling your mileage in Double Your MPG.

Monday, January 28th, 2008

I was tasked with taking our new e85 vehicle on a week long test drive to see if E85, E10 or regular gasoline worked best for mileage and performance. I picked up my Wisconsin vacation guide and hit the road. As long as I needed a long distance drive I just as well enjoy myself along the way. I found the E85 mixture to have the worst fuel mileage but there didn’t seem to be a loss of performance. The lesser cost of the fuel actually made the dollars per mile a bit cheaper, but with the different prices at different stations it was hard to figure. The E10 also had slightly less gas mileage and there was absolutely no loss of power. In fact my car seemed to have slightly more power with that fuel as far as low end torque goes. Over in Iowa they have a reduced tax on that fuel and it may sell for as much as ten cents a gallon cheaper there. That makes the dollars per mile the lowest of any of the alternatives. Finally the regular no lead did give the best miles per gallon and the performance was almost as good.

Dish Installation

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

Now a days satellite tv has gotten loads better. Picture is excellent with %100 digital along with sound. Usually any problems with Dish is usually the result of either a bad piece of equipment or a faulty installation.

Usually a Dish technician can problem solve the issue within an hour. Once the issue has been resolved Dish customers are very pleased. Quite often the issue will reveal itself within’ a week of installation. After that everything usually runs fantastic.

For those rare instances where there seems to be an ongoing technical issue, Dish does have a top score for customer service which is reassuring as electronics do at times have a mind of their own.

How To Track Antique Car Prices

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008
A quick way of getting the lay of the land in determining antique car prices is to take a visit to eBay. Millions of cars are sold on eBay each year, a fair amount of them are antique or classic cars. You don’t want to look at the bid price on open auctions. You want to look at the final bid price on closed auctions. Many times this will give you a great ballpark figure as to what the car is worth. Also, note how many people bid on the automobile. This gives you an indication of the popularity of the antique car model that you’re interested in.

The cars I saw in Missouri

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

Some close friends and I decided to take our vacations in Missouri as it was a state we don’t often travel to. The gas prices were similar to much of the rest of the Midwest so that really wasn’t a problem. We did go to Kansas City and went to a car show. Did they ever have some decked out rods! My favorite was a cherry red T-rod with a three fifty one Windsor engine it. It had chrome pipes and tires wider than I’d ever seen on a street legal vehicle before. There was an eight track quad system installed. Boy did that bring back the memories. He even had a selection of tapes that still worked. I could just imagine myself driving down main street in that sweet little ride with a cute blond beside me, her hair blowing in the wind. The closest I ever got in real life was the sixty seven Mustang that I had in my youth. It had a vinyl top, an AM radio, and regular size tires. But I put a set of chrome rims on it and I thought I was hot stuff. My girlfriend at the time had short brown hair that wouldn’t move in a hurricane, but a guy can dream can’t he?

Navigation Systems For Cars

Monday, January 21st, 2008

….in order for car navigation systems to be valid, they would have to be updated. Roads change all of the time, not only in where they go, but also their route number. Construction is also a problem, though not really a necessary piece of information. It would be nice though, don’t you think?

Some experts recommend more frequently.

Pass It On

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

One of the key ingredients for success can be summed up with one simple word—Focus! On what? That’s easy—one thing at a time. You see, in this fast-paced, “multitask” society we live in, it seems we are judged by how many different things we can do all at one time; yet in reality, we can only do one thing well at any given time.

Imagine being on your computer playing music, checking emails, working on a Word document, Excel worksheet, and PowerPoint presentation, and looking up stuff on the Internet. Your system might move pretty slowly. Right? Guess what? The same applies to us. We can do things faster and better, if we focus on only one thing at a time.

The only thing you hear is a voice inside repeating one of the coach’s basic lessons, “Before you can do anything else, you first need to catch the ball. Until you do that, everything else is pointless.”

How many things are you juggling in your life?
Learn to focus on one thing, master it well, and then move on to another. Focus may be the missing ingredient in your recipe for success.

Is Luxury Car Leasing Convenient? | Car Detailing

Friday, January 4th, 2008

Today, companies are always looking for new ways to limit the amount of money that they spend. They are always looking for ways to reduce their tax payments and limiting the number of assets that are not related to the core business of the organization. That s the main reason why leasing exists.

If you are a big company like IBM and want to buy high end cars for your sales division, you don t have to spend millions of dollars to do it. It isn t financially savvy considering that the focus of IBM is technology. A much better option is to look for a luxury car leasing plan and save that money for a new lab or a new product line.
